A through hole usually refers to a hole on a printed circuit board, which is used for fixed installation of connectors or interconnection between layers. A board characterized by such a hole is called a through hole printed circuit board.
To put it simply, when the printed circuit board is held up against the light, the holes where the light can be seen are "through holes", which are distinguished from through holes by blind holes and buried holes.
